About

About this product

Opteon™ SF33 is an ecologically friendly nonflammable fluid that is commonly used as a specialty cleaning. Opteon™ SF33 is optimized to replace much more harmful chemicals such as HCFCs, PFPEs, HFCs, HFEs.  Other applications Opteon™ SF33 is commonly utilized in the military, aerospace, and semiconductor manufacturing industries such as:

  • Ultra Low GWP (≤ 2.0), zero ODP, 100% non-flammable

Introduction

Opteon™ SF33 (HFO-1336mzz-Z) is a proprietary hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) specialty fluid with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and very low global warming potential (GWP) of 2, 100-yr ITH. It’s a clear, colorless, nonflammable, thermally stable, low toxicity, and
environmentally friendly fluid developed for cleaning, and drying. The fluid has a boiling point of 33.4 °C (91.4 °F) and is appropriate for replacing PFCs, HCFCs, PFPEs, HFCs, and HFEs in industrial solvent applications.

Opteon™ SF33 is used in many military, aerospace, and semiconductor manufacturing industry applications. Typical uses for this nonflammable fluid include:

  • Metal degreasing
  • Lubricant deposition
  • Electronics cleaning
  • Precision cleaning
  • Rinsing agent
  • Aerosol solvent
  • Heat transfer fluid

Metal compatibility of Opteon SF33:

Opteon SF33 is compatible with most metals such as brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. However, it is not compatible or recommended to be used with strong bases and highly basic process materials. It is also not recommended to be utilized with strong Lewis acids such as aluminum tricholride, alkali and alkaline earth metals, powdered metals, and powder metal salts.

Plastics and Elastomers Compatibility:

Opteon™ SF33 showed good compatibility with most plastics and elastomers after being tested at room temperature for 2 weeks. Please refer to charts under “Technical Data” or contact our technical team for questions regarding specific materials compatibility in your application.

Storage and handling for Opteon SF33

Opteon SF33 exhibits no closed or open cup flashpoint and not classified as a flammable liquid by the NFPA or DOT. It is thermally stable and does not oxidize or degrade during storage. Store in a clean and dry area that is protected from freezing temperature but also does not exceed 46C to prevent leakage or potential rupture from pressure and expansion. Drum pumps are recommended to dispense fluid from its container. Those vapor degreasing companies that utilize vapor containment technology must enable safe and economical use of the Opteon SF33 solvent. It is easily recoverable by off-line and in-line distillation equipment, such as vapor degreasers since it is a pure component material. Always be sure to test for proper waste disposal classification for solvent that cannot be recycled. Safety data sheet (SDS) is available for those who need additional and more in-depth safety information.
